I noticed a pattern throughout my photos from performance tours, as so many were of unique buildings and the way people viewed the world through them. I saw parallels between choreography and design and began exploring architecture as an option. Once I landed in a master's program at Pratt Institute, I knew it was the right fit. My mind was filled with new ideas and perspectives, and the rush of possibilities had me hooked. A 3-dimensional point of view, cultivated through so many years of training in the studio, is ever relevant in my work each day as an architect. The composition of light, space, shapes, rhythm and balance are equally essential. The thrill of seeing it all come together is just as exciting as opening night - except this time it is built to last and no longer as ephemeral as movement on the stage. My transition has not left dance behind but rather merged that unique perspective with that of an architect as a choreographer of the built environment. I was awarded the national AIA Young Architect Award in 2020 for the work I've accomplished within 10 years of architectural licensure. My design work spans the world across many typologies, from super tall towers to local libraries to business and music schools to colleges of engineering and teaching and learning in higher education institutions. My success is built from exceptional teams which harken back to my days in the corps de ballet.
