Garen Scribner

Garen joined the San Francisco Ballet at the age of 18, rising to the rank of soloist, where he created and performed lead roles in works by Christopher Wheeldon, William Forsythe, Jorma Elo, Mark Morris, Wayne McGregor, John Neumeier, Jerome Robbins, Helgi Tomasson, and George Balanchine, to name a few. While dancing full-time, Garen earned a B.A. (Performing Arts, with honors) from St. Mary’s College of California, and held a visiting lecturer position teaching dance at Stanford University. He co-founded Dance For A Reason (DanceFAR), successfully raising $500,000+ for non-profit organizations like the Cancer Prevention Institute of California. After ten years at SF Ballet, Garen left to join Nederlands Dans Theater 1, where he worked with choreographers Jiri Kylian, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon, Alexander Ekman, and Marco Goecke, among others. After, he starred as "Jerry" in the Broadway and National Tour productions of Christopher Wheeldon’s An American in Paris. Next, he expanded into television and film, where he writes, directs, hosts, and produces arts programs for PBS and others. His broadcast television series Broadway Sandwich (PBS/ALL ARTS/WNET) has been nominated for 3 NY Emmy Awards and VOGUE called his film Corps-en-tine for The Australian Ballet “one of the best things to come out of quarantine." Garen earned a Master of Public Administration (MC/MPA) from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in May 2022. Today, he runs GarenMedia, an artist management and production company representing world-class talent from across the industry and producing acclaimed broadcast and streaming short and long-form content.
