Camila Vicioso

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Columbia University
Camila was born and raised in Manhattan, NYC. She attended the School of American Ballet for 11 years and performed in productions with New York City Ballet as a child. She has experience balancing academics with a rigorous grade school, as well as with navigating online high school and was accepted via early decision to Columbia University. Wanting to fulfill one of her dreams to become a professional dancer, she took 2 gap years and danced with Connecticut Ballet before starting college.
At Columbia, she double majored in Psychology and Biology and discovered her passion for medicine. During undergrad, she worked as a research assistant in a neurobehavioral childhood development lab and pediatric cardiology lab, which were very valuable experiences to her. She delved into her research and presented at multiple conferences as well as completed an honors senior thesis using her research at the Developmental Affective Neuroscience Lab. In her sophomore year of college, Camila applied and was accepted to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai through their FlexMed early acceptance program. In her senior year at Columbia, Camila was selected as a Senior Marshal to represent her class as well as received a Leadership & Excellence Award in Community Building. She also received the Carman Fellowship to support her first year of medical school.
While in college, Camila still maintained her passion for dance and performed with Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Columbia Repertory Ballet, the Columbia Dance Department, and CU Ballet Ensemble. She also was Artistic Director of CU Ballet Ensemble. She is now a first year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine and happy to talk to anyone interested in pursuing careers in medicine and/or research as well as how to apply characteristics learned from dance to a future career.
