Camila Vicioso

Camila was born and raised in Manhattan, NYC. She attended the School of American Ballet for 11 years and performed in productions with New York City Ballet as a child. She has experience balancing academics with a rigorous grade school, as well as with navigating online high school and was accepted via early decision to Columbia University. Wanting to fulfill one of her dreams to become a professional dancer, she took 2 gap years and danced with Connecticut Ballet before starting college.

At Columbia, she double majored in Psychology and Biology and discovered her passion for medicine. During undergrad, she worked as a research assistant in a neurobehavioral childhood development lab and pediatric cardiology lab and discovered her love for working with children. In her sophomore year of college, Camila applied and was accepted to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai through their FlexMed early acceptance program.

While in college, Camila still performed with Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Columbia Repertory Ballet, the Columbia Dance Department, and CU Ballet Ensemble. She also was Artistic Director of CU Ballet Ensemble.

Camila is a rising fourth year (class of 2028) medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). Between 3rd and 4th year of medical school, Camila is currently a Leon Root Research Fellow at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) with the Department of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. She is happy to talk to anyone interested in pursuing careers in medicine and/or research as well as how to apply characteristics learned from dance to a future career.
