Michelle Schmidt

B.A. in Biology

Columbia University

School of American Ballet

Michelle was born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida and received her early ballet training at Boca Ballet Theatre. During her time there, she danced in many full-length classical works as well as contemporary and jazz pieces. Dancing in George Balanchine's Serenade inspired Michelle to take her ballet training to the next level. Her love for the art form pushed her to audition for and attend summer programs at the School of American Ballet in New York City. Michelle was ultimately invited to train year-round at SAB's winter term. She left home at the age of 15 and trained at SAB for three years. While training at SAB, Michelle had the opportunity to perform various corps de ballet and featured roles in some of George Balanchine's most iconic works. Additionally, she had the opportunity to perform in New York City Ballet's production of The Sleeping Beauty. Upon graduation from SAB and the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Michelle decided to put her hopes for a professional ballet career on the back burner and focus on academics. She attended Columbia University and recently graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. She has greatly enjoyed her academic journey and is currently applying to medical school. She is excited for everything the future holds and is looking forward to helping others find their path.
